The Almudaina Palace hosted yesterday the swearing-in ceremony of the new Commander General of the Balearic Islands, Major General Ricardo Esteban Cabrejos, appointed by resolution published in the Official Gazette of the Ministry of Defense (BOD) on March 9, 2026.
The ceremony, presided over by Lieutenant General Julio Salom Herrera, Head of the Canary Islands Command, was attended by the main civil and military authorities of the islands.
The Canary Islands Command was created by Defense Order 708 of July 27, 2020, and began operations on September 1 of that year with a composition that includes the Canary Islands XVI Brigade, the General Commands of the Balearic Islands, Ceuta, and Melilla, and other small combat support units. The Canary Islands Command consolidates the Operational structure of Permanent Commands of the Armed Forces, having a force of more than 10,000 military personnel.
