Tribute to the 72nd Anniversary of the Llucalari Battery Accident at the La Mola Fortress

This morning, a tribute was held at the base of Vickers Battery No. 1 in the La Mola Fortress to the 23 soldiers who died at the Llucalari Battery on June 26, 1953, due to the accidental detonation of 150 kg of gunpowder during a shooting exercise.

The event, organized by the Military Commander of the Balearic Islands, began at 10:30 a.m. in the military pantheon of the Mahón cemetery, where a funeral service was held and presided over by Colonel Víctor Manuel Herrero Álvarez on behalf of the Military Commander of the Balearic Islands, Major General Fernando Gracia Herréiz.
