The Fortress of Isabel II de La Mola, the Castillo de San Felipe, the Military Museum of Menorca, the Torre d’en Penjat and the Torre de Felipet have something in common: they are part of the military-historical heritage managed by the Military Consortium of Menorca, a non-profit public entity that currently brings together five administrations and whose main objective is to preserve, manage and disseminate these historical spaces.
Created in 1998, the Consorcio del Museo Militar de Menorca y Patrimonio Histórico-Militar del Puerto de Maó y Cala Sant Esteve was created with the aim of conserving and enhancing military installations that had fallen into disuse.
It is currently made up of the Ministry of Defence, the Balearic Government, the Insular Council of Menorca and the town councils of Maó and Es Castell, five administrations to which must be added a public body, Ports of the Balearic Islands. Defensa maintains the property of the buildings, while the Consortium disposes of their use and is responsible for their management, conservation and dissemination. The assignment is established until 2048.
Its activity combines heritage preservation with cultural and touristic diffusion. It organizes and facilitates visits, activities and exhibitions, as well as promoting maintenance and restoration actions.
In some cases, certain services are awarded to external companies. This is the case of La Mola, whose management of visits and activities was awarded in 2025 to Pending Services and Management for a period of three years, extendable for another two, with an annual fee of 28,000 euros.
The Consortium is financed through contributions from the administrations that make it up and the income generated by its own activity, such as visits or certain services.
