General Luis Alejandre will give a lecture next Tuesday, July 1, on “The Evolution of the Art of Fortification, from Vauban to d’Alembert.”
The evolution of the art of fortification is characterized by a shift in focus from purely defensive fortification to a broader consideration that includes geometry, engineering, and military tactics. Vauban, with his geometric designs and focus on the defense of strongholds, represented the culmination of classical fortification. D’Alembert, although not a military engineer, contributed to the study of fortification through his work on the Encyclopedia, extending the concept beyond the mere construction of walls and bastions.
The event will take place at the Palacio de Isabel II next Tuesday, July 1, starting at 7:00 p.m. Free admission until full capacity is reached.
