Lecture on “Menorca in the Rif War” by Carmen Marchante

The Palace of Isabel II will host a lecture and discussion on “Menorca in the Rif War” next Wednesday, May 13, starting at 7:30 p.m. The lecture will be given by Carmen Marchante, PhD in Modern Philology and researcher of Spain’s military history in the Protectorate during the African campaigns.

Over the years, the speaker has researched the textual transmission of dramatic and literary texts in various cultures, publishing numerous works on this topic in Italy and Spain. She has taught in several countries, addressed theoretical issues related to foreign language acquisition, participated in numerous European research projects, and served as an Education Advisor at the Spanish Embassies in Brazil and Rome.

His long-standing interest in North African affairs also stems from a family tradition. His father, an artillery general, was born in Melilla; he was the son of an infantry officer who dedicated the best years of his youth to the Rif War in the 1920s.

The conference-colloquium with Carmen Marchante has been jointly organized by the Military Consortium of Menorca and the newspaper MENORCA, from whom the initiative originated, with the collaboration of the Department of Culture of the Consell de Menorca, which has covered the speaker’s travel expenses from Madrid.

The event is free and open to the public until capacity is reached.
