Mallorcan artist Joan Bennàssar exhibits his sculptures at La Mola

The Mallorcan painter and sculptor, Joan Bennàssar, has chosen the Fortress of Isabel II, in La Mola, Mahón’s port, to exhibit his paintings and sculptures.

Following the success of his exhibition “Utopia” at San Carlos Castle in Palma de Mallorca, “The Stone and the Book. Utopias 2” is now on display, an exhibition of over 50 sculptures and just as many paintings in the incomparable setting of La Mola. The works are exhibited in various locations throughout the historic military complex, further enhancing its grandeur and mystique.

In the author’s words, “the exhibition hosted by the La Mola Fortress in Mahón attempts, thanks to the emblematic nature of this space, to be a response to the contradictory anxiety we feel in the face of globalization, wars, and the penetration of AI into our daily lives, which make it difficult to separate creation, freedom, and equality—the driving forces of culture—from the fears of insubstantiality in art.”

Ultimately, this contemporary art exhibition stands out for its monumental sculptures that fuse mythology, Mediterranean symbolism, and an idealized vision of humankind, occupying the historical military space with a reflective artistic experience.

The exhibition is organized with the support of the Menorca Military Consortium and the artist himself, who has undertaken the transport and installation of the works.

The open-air exhibition of Joan Bennàssar’s works opens next Friday, May 8th, and can be visited during the regular opening hours of the Fortress of Isabel II, starting on May 9th.

The initiative is scheduled to run for the next two years and is undoubtedly yet another reason to visit La Mola.
