Colonel Víctor Manuel Herrero Álvarez took office this morning as director of the Consortium of the Military Museum of Menorca and Historical Heritage of the Port of Mahón and Cala San Esteban, after the retirement of his predecessor, the colonel Javier Castro. Likewise, Lieutenant Colonel Francisco Javier Bartol Espinosa will be the new Secretary of said body and the director of the Military Museum of Menorca, located in the Plaza Esplanada de Es Castell. Therefore, this event has, in fact, meant the dismissal of the acting director of the Consortium in recent months, Lieutenant Colonel Francisco José Campo Largo.
The inauguration of the new position took place this morning in the parade ground of the Palace of Isabel II, on the street with the same name, in the presence of the main military, political and civil authorities of the Island.
The event was chaired by the General Director of the Institute of Military History and Culture of the Army, Enrique Bohigas Jayme, who explained the trajectory of Colonel Víctor Manuel Herrero and the importance of the position that has been granted to him. The General Commander of the Balearic Islands, Fernando García Blázquez, ended the event with a brief speech of thanks for the presence of all attendees.
The Senator for Menorca, Cristóbal Marqués, the Mayor of Mahón, Héctor Pons, the Councilor for Culture of said municipality, Conxa Juanola, the Mayor of Es Castell, Juana Escandell, the Minister of Culture of the Consell Insular de Menorca, Miquel Àngel María and the Bishop of Menorca, Francisco Conesa, among others.
The first statements of the new director of the Menorca Military Consortium have been of gratitude for the honor that this appointment has entailed as well as the presence of the authorities, with whom his intention is to “establish a close collaboration that helps us all to achieve our objectives and above all overcoming any obstacle that may arise on a day-to-day basis ”.
