La Mola is promoted through a
agreement with the airline Easy Jet
The Military Consortium of Menorca has carried out in recent months an important remodeling of the Military Museum of Menorca, located in the Plaza Explanada in the municipality of Es Castell, in such a way that the museographic discourse has been lightened and, in addition, the previous thematic museum discourse for a dissertation with a chronological line of the military history of the Island, more in line with today’s exhibition halls.
It is important to highlight the creation of a new room dedicated to the 21st century, which highlights three fundamental ideas:
1- The transition from the army with replacement soldiers to a more professional army.
2- The role of women in the Armed Forces.
3- The participation of Spain in international missions.
The winter season has also been used to renew the entire electrical installation of the enclosure, which had become obsolete.
The entrance to the Museum is free and the opening hours are from Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays and holidays it remains closed.
The director of the Menorca Military Consortium, Colonel Víctor Manuel Herrero, has also announced that “they are working on the revitalization of San Felipe as a comprehensive project that allows all the citizens of Menorca to enjoy this impressive monument, as well as the numerous visitors who choose this incomparable island as a vacation spot. The idea is to convert the San Felipe Castle space into a meeting place for nature, culture and history, especially the military”.
The Colonel has also stated that the numbers of visitors registered by the monuments before the coronavirus pandemic have already been recovered, so that this past May, for example, La Mola received a total of 6,000 visits, thus turning out to be the Best month of May ever. In this way, La Mola receives around 50,000 visitors a year, the Military Museum receives between 3,000 and 4,000 visits a year and, finally, between 4,000 and 5,000 people also visit the Castillo de San Felipe (“the great hidden fortress”) every year.
In relation to the Fortress of Isabel II, La Mola, its director, Rafael Duran, has announced that an agreement has been reached with the Easy Jet airline to promote visits to the monument, by inserting an advertisement on the cards boarding of the passengers of said airline. It is important to bear in mind that Easy Jet plans to transport some 50,000 British passengers to Menorca between the months of July and August, who will be able to enjoy a discount of one euro on the price of tickets.
In addition, La Mola has incorporated two new electric vehicles this summer, in addition to the three that currently exist, thus facilitating the mobility of visitors. It should be remembered that since last year the monumental site can be visited using an electric scooter, an initiative that has been a complete success and, therefore, this season is maintained.
Finally, it is important to highlight the different activities that La Mola offers: Starlight visits every Wednesday from 9:00 p.m., guided tours during sunset (every Friday) and the instructive dramatized show (for the fifth consecutive year ) “The Shadow of the Mola”.
