Evolution of artillery in La Mola during the 19th and 20th centuries

The Menorca Military Consortium recommends the following article published on the La Mola website (www.fortalesalamola.com) about some examples of the artillery pieces that were used in the fortress during the 19th and 20th centuries.
This news shows that “the first guns used were smooth bronze cannons of 15 and 21 cm muzzle-loading with a short range and with inadequate initial velocities of their projectiles to pierce the armor plates of warships, therefore howitzers were used profusely, their curved trajectories reaching the unarmored decks of ships. The 15 cm smooth iron howitzer was used.
Over the years, the cannons evolved until, the statement continues, stating that “after the First World War, technological advances made it possible again to increase calibers and world squadrons rushed to build battleships equipped with large guns of heavy gauge. This is how 381 mm Vickers cannons were installed that allowed to drill 36 cm thick steel plates at distances of 23 km. ”
