The legend of the Moor Xoroi takes place in the Cova d’en Xoroi (whose name pays homage to this legend), some rocks that the sea air perfumes and that keep with their imposing beauty the tale of a love story based on the times when Menorca was colonized by the Arabs.
“The Moor” Xoroi, a man with an unknown past who to this day still does not know very well if he was a corsair abandoned by his family or a survivor of a shipwreck, arrived by sea, climbed the cliffs and took refuge in the cave .
The surrounding country houses were frequently looted. From one of these houses, a beautiful girl about to get married, “Sa Fadrina de Biniadris”, disappeared, who fell in love with Xoroi and went to live in the cave with him. Months and years passed …
Nothing else was heard of the missing girl. One winter day, the Island was dressed in an unusual snowfall and telltale footprints appeared in the snow.
Armed men following the tracks descended into the cave. In the grotto they found a man, a woman and three children, the fruit of their love.
Xoroi, seeing himself cornered and powerless, jumped into the sea followed by his eldest son. The sea that had brought him closed over them, keeping the mystery of his life.
Disconsolate, the woman and her two children were transferred to Alaior where they lived and had children.
For several years, the Cova d’en Xoroi has been a nightclub nestled inside the cavern.
