The Isabel II La Mola Fortress will be the setting for the celebration of the ICOFORT Spain – Menorca 2020-2021 International Congress, VII Fortifications Days organized by the Association of Friends of Montjuïc Castle, from October 20 to 23 of the current year. This event was to be held last year (around the same dates), but had to be canceled due to the effects of the second wave caused by the coronavirus.
The program will focus on the knowledge of military landscapes and the management and conservation models of their environment and environment at the national and international level. In other words, the program of communications presented for the 2020 call is maintained.
A total of 50 professionals from all fields related to the knowledge, valuation, management and conservation of fortified heritage had confirmed their attendance at said event in 2020 when it had to be canceled, so it is expected that a similar number of professionals in the sector.
The conference will deal with three important topics: Historical research (military architecture, territory and landscape), environmental management of military heritage, conservation and re-use (military architecture and natural environment). In addition, the program of activities includes combining communications with round tables of discussion and visits to places of interest such as the Isabel II Fortress (La Mola), the Castillo de San Felipe, the Fort Marlborough, the Military Museum of Menorca, the Isla del Rey, the Batteries of Llucalari, etc …
The Menorca Military Consortium celebrates the recovery of the call for the aforementioned event, because it is an excellent opportunity to publicize the important military and historical heritage that our Island treasures.
