The long-awaited second edition of The Meadower OCR La Mola will take place on November 9 at the Fortress of La Mola Isabel II, in Maó, and is expected to surpass the success of the first edition in participation and excitement. This obstacle course, unique on the Island, is consolidating itself as one of the most outstanding sporting events in Menorca, combining sport, history and tourism in a privileged natural environment.
This year, participants will be able to choose between the already known Hard (10 km and 27 obstacles) and Fast (5 km and 17 obstacles) modalities. In addition, the Kids version will be maintained, designed for young athletes between 5 and 15 years old, with adapted distances that will allow the little ones to enjoy the experience and live the excitement of the competition in a safe and fun way. La Mola will once again be the perfect setting for these routes that take advantage of the historic and natural terrain, offering a challenge for the most adventurous athletes and a unique opportunity to discover one of the most emblematic places in Menorca.
The presentation of the event was attended yesterday by organizers and representatives of the fortress consortium, including Colonel Rojas; Secretary of the La Mola Military Consortium, Lieutenant Colonel Bartol; General Director of the Military Museum and Rafa Durán; Director of the Fortress. Bego Mercadal; Island Director of Tourism Promotion and Lázaro Alcaide, Sports Councilor of the Mahon City Council, all of whom highlighted the importance of this event for sport and tourism on the Island. Its organizers expressed special thanks to the La Mola Military Consortium for its dedication to the conservation and preservation of its facilities, which allow the celebration of such outstanding events as this one. Likewise, we would like to thank the Fundació Foment del Turisme de Menorca and the Maó Town Hall for their constant commitment to promoting sporting and cultural activities on the island. This year, the race will also attract participants from all of the Balearic Islands, which will bring to life a historic site such as La Mola, showing visitors an essential part of Menorcan heritage and history.
As a novelty, this year the organisation combines sport and leisure, offering all participants and their companions a 20% discount on the purchase of tickets for the musical This is Michael, which will take place that same night at the Pavelló Menorca. The activities of The Meadower Menorca OCR will begin on the morning of 9 November with the distribution of race numbers (9am) and the Fast 5k (adults) will start at 10am, followed by the Kids (1pm) and the Hard (3pm). For participants and their companions, the ‘finisher’ area will feature ‘food trucks’ and live music, offering a complete experience of sport, gastronomy and entertainment in a festive atmosphere.
The event, sponsored by the Fundació Foment del Turisme de Menorca, hopes to exceed the number of participants from the first edition. In addition to promoting Menorca as a sporting and tourist destination beyond the high season, it seeks to offer visitors a renewed and unique image of the island at this time of year.
