Es Castell, the town that welcomes us, son of the demolished castle of San Felipe and partly the current father of this Military History Museum of Menorca, celebrated on February 8 the founding party of the town in 1771, during the British occupation.
In few places like this town is the maxim that reads at the entrance of this museum so fulfilled: “The history of Menorca is, to a large extent, the history of the armies that have been there”. This town, in the 60s, received and welcomed as its children, a series of families from the Jaen town of Jabalquinto, families that after a couple of generations are today an integral part of the town.
The twinning between the two towns was materialised this year with the visit of part of the municipal corporation, mayor, chronicler and archivist, who accompanied us during this year’s events.
On Friday 7th a group of these twinned people from Jabalquinto came together with part of the municipal corporation of Es Castel to visit the Museum. Despite the museum being under construction and only being able to visit one of its floors, it was a pleasure to receive them. I hope they enjoyed it.
