More than 250 runners participated this morning in the 20th La Mola Fortress Race, an athletic event whose course took place entirely within the Isabel II Fortress (La Mola), a monumental, heritage, and historical site on the island of Menorca with an approximate area of 170,000 square meters.
Sergi Reurer, from the Lô Esport Menorca club, triumphed over the other participants in the top category, completing the two laps of the 7,500-meter circuit in 25:22, 48 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Xavi Villalonga of CET Tortugues Runners Menorca.
In the women’s category, María Pallicer was once again the first to cross the finish line with a time of 31:15, 1 minute and 4 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Silvia Conde of Lô Esport Menorca.
In the Under-16 (cadet) category, Mario Jiménez (23:58) and Neus Villalonga (22:09), the latter representing Cecome Menorca Atletisme, were the first male and female finishers, respectively, to complete the 3,750-meter course in that category.
Special mention should be made of the participation and effort of some members of the Ministry of Defense and State Security Forces, as well as the athletes who competed in the Nordic walking category, with Delfín Madrid of Club Vidalba (0:31:54) in the men’s category and Concepción Mir (0:27:12) of Club Deportivo Nordic Walking in the women’s category, achieving top positions in the rankings.
The president of the Permanent Commission of the Menorca Military Consortium, Colonel Antonio Rojas, accompanied by the rest of the military staff, was responsible for awarding the medals and trophies to the winners, with the hope of further increasing the number of participants in the twenty-first edition of the La Mola Fortress Race, which will be held next year.
The Menorca Military Consortium, the La Mola Fortress, Cecome Menorca Atletisme-Maó and Elitechip are the organizers of this event, with the collaboration of the Balearic Islands Athletics Federation (FAIB).
