A total of 50 professionals from all fields related to the knowledge, valorization, management and conservation of fortified heritage participate in La Mola in the International Congress ICOFORT Spain – Menorca 2020-2021, VII Fortifications Conference organized by the Association of Friends of the Castle de Montjuïc and the Fortress of Isabel II.
This morning the opening ceremony of the event was held by the General Director of the Institute of Military History and Culture, Enrique Bohigas Jayme. The president of the Insular Council of Menorca, Susana Mora, and the mayor of Mahón, Héctor Pons, were in charge of welcoming the attendees. Among them, it is worth highlighting the mayor of Es Castell, Joana Escandell.
The inaugural conference was about “The modern polyoracetic heritage of the Balearic Islands”, by Miguel José Deyá Bauzá.
The congressmen have had the opportunity this morning to see the facilities of La Mola, through a guided tour, and this afternoon there will be several presentations on “the coastal towers of Menorca”, the “British defense towers of Menorca, 1798- 1802 ”and the“ Historical Study of the Battery F-9 of Biniancolla (Sant Lluís, Menorca) ”, among others.
The Congress will close next Saturday. Until then there will be more conferences and visits to the Castillo de San Felipe, the Military History Museum of Menorca in Es Castell and the Talayotic Village of Torre d’en Gaumés.
