Last Friday, October 28, the Military Archbishop of Spain, Monsignor Juan Antonio Aznárez Cobo, carried out a pastoral visit to our Island. Specifically, the Monsignor had the opportunity to see the Castle of San Felipe, the Fortress of Isabel II ( La Mola) and the Naval Base, in the port of Mahón, where he officiated a Holy Mass attended by the military family and parishioners.
Monsignor Juan Antonio Aznárez took advantage of his visit to explain the mission of a military archbishop, as well as how and in what he can help the military stationed on the Island.
Once the Holy Mass was over, the commemorative medal of the fifth centenary of the proclamation of Santa Bárbara, as patron saint of the Spanish Artillery, was delivered to all those who had previously requested it.
It is important to remember that the Military Bishopric announced last year, during the celebration of the Patron Saints of the Arms and Corps of the Army in Menorca, the decree by which it was decided to create said award that could be requested by artillerymen of all kinds and conditions, even those who were replacements when they did the Military Service, as well as the ladies of Santa Bárbara.
After the decorations, the pastoral visit to Menorca by the Military Archbishop of Spain was concluded.
