El Hornabeque is the area most at the forefront of La Mola, defending the land front and the sea front. The head of the Hornabeque, part plus the vanguard of the fortress, covers Cala Teulera. We go down a magnificent spiral staircase to La Caponera so that the moat can be defended from inside it.
The left wing of the Hornabeque with its gunboats covers the sea front, in case an enemy ship had exceeded the defenses that closed access to the port.
Front 8, the Counterguard and the Puerta de la Reina. The main door, the so-called Puerta de la Reina, above it there is a plaque commemorating its inauguration in 1852. The defense of the main gate of the fortress was carried out between its Counterguard and a series of crenellated galleries to the right and left of the main building.
