The Menorca Military Consortium has recovered a news item published by the Menorca newspaper in 2015 in which it is possible to observe how a group of fifths destined for Mahón, in the year 1964, spent their day off to do the military service.
A video, edited in 8 millimeters, has been posted on a Facebook group by José María Añó Vañó, one of the soldiers who star in the images recorded in Maó more than 50 years ago. Accompanying Año Vañó, Julio Sanchís Aguado, Julio Salvi Cortés, Vicente Ros Pardo and José Ruiz Molla.
The video, which lasts about six minutes, reflects what Maó was like in the 60s and what the military from outside of Menorca dedicated to the island to fulfill the Mandatory Military Service spend their free time.
The video was disseminated through the Facebook groups “Menorca, sin más” and “Old photos of Menorca”, where it has been widely commented on.
