Tribute to the fallen at the Mahón Municipal Cemetery

This morning the Armed Forces celebrated Memorial Day for the Homeland in the Municipal Cemetery of Mahón.

The event was presided over by Colonel Víctor Manuel Herrero Álvarez and the attendees participated, first of all, in the Holy Mass celebrated in the Santuari de la Mare de Déu de Gràcia. At the end of it, the President of the Royal Brotherhood of Veterans of the FAS and GC. Commander (retired), Fernando Villalonga Sintes, and Colonel, Víctor Manuel Herrero Álvarez, have proceeded to place a laurel wreath at the foot of the monument dedicated to Those Fallen for the Homeland, located inside the funerary grounds.

To conclude the event, the Commander of the Italian Republic, Mario Cappa, and Colonel, Víctor Manuel Herrero, have worked in the same way at the monument dedicated to the memory of the tragedy of the Italian battleship “Roma”, sunk in September 1943 in the waters of Menorca.

The Day of the Dead holiday is a day dedicated to the memory of those who are no longer with us. Also in the military units that, on the occasion of this celebration, have remembered their colleagues who gave their lives in the line of duty.

The flags have been flying at half-mast during today, November 2, set as Memorial Day for the Homeland in all barracks and military establishments.
