The Minorca Military Consortium wanted to recover a video recorded by an individual of the last day of instruction in La Mola for the 90/1st of the BIMTB Mahón II, mainly due to its historical interest.
It is a video from the year 1990 in which you can see some of the buildings used to date for the accommodation of the soldiers who fulfilled the Compulsory Military Service in Menorca. There are also some scenes that reflect the sea of the port of Mahón in the background.
The images are of poor quality but they eloquently stage a part of the history of the Fortress of Isabel II, better known as La Mola. This monument was used for several years as a destination for young people who had to comply with the Compulsory Military Service as well as housed a prison. We are talking about the last years of its useful life as an installation for exclusive military use. Subsequently, the facilities were abandoned and for some years now it has been part of the historical-military heritage of the port of Mahón, which is managed by the Menorca Military Consortium.
