On a day like today, 100 years ago, the first fatal air-sea accident of the Spanish Navy occurred in Menorca and, to commemorate said anniversary, an event was held at the Isabel II Fortress, La Mola.
On June 20, 1923, the Naval Aeronautics suffered its first fatal accident. A Macchi M.18 piloted by Lieutenant Vicente Cervera, carrying as a passenger the qualified Dédalo, Juan R. Suárez de Tangil, crashed in the vicinity of Mahón, specifically in the area of Es Freus, in La Mola, due to a stall when flying at about 300 meters high.
The act of recognition of the deceased was presided over by the Navy Logistics Support Admiral, Mr. Ricardo Hernández López, accompanied by Colonel Víctor Manuel Herrero Álvarez, director of the Menorca Military Consortium, and the mayor of Mahón, Héctor Pons.
