Undoubtedly, the eastern part of the island is the one that brings together the most defensive-military monuments of Menorca. This is logical if we take into account that the sea was the only entrance to Menorca years ago, and that the port of Mahón was the most coveted on the island, because it is located in a strategic point and because of its characteristics that allowed a safe docking.
Therefore, it was essential to defend the entrance to the port. Here we find the Fortress of La Mola, the Military Hospital of the island of the King, the Lazareto, the Naval Base, the towers of Cala Teulera and Felipet, … and towards the mouth, Fort Marlborough, the Castle of San Felipe and the Tower d’en Penjat, among others.
Addaia, a charming little port with one of the best preserved coastal defense towers. It cannot be accessed inside, but it can be visited from the outside.
Sa Mesquida, located to the north, preserves a defense tower, although being privately owned, it cannot be visited.
